UV Man - Sun Safety Education Workshops |
At Shade Structures, our UV Man has come to symbolize our efforts to educate and protect people from the harmful effects of the sun. Back in the early 1990’s, and before we were known by our current brand name, we began offering products under the name “UV Protector.” The new brand needed a unique and identifiable image which was soon provided by a very talented graphics artist who created our UV Man logo. We knew we were on to something with this charismatic character and not long after we became known as Shade Structures. In addition, we came up with the slogan of “Screen the Sun, Keep the Fun!” This new slogan was very important as we knew that while our main job was to protect people we also wanted our products to be creative, exciting and, well…fun!

| Soon the UV Man was brought to life in the form of the inflatable costume version that we use today. This was a key moment in our history as we were now able to not only have our UV Man as an entertaining mascot at trade shows and other promotional events but as a the key player in our UV Man sun safety educational programs. For many years now, the UV Man along with many of our well-trained Sales personnel have been spreading the word about sun safety through UV Man workshops and presentations held at schools, daycare centers, parks and playgrounds, community facilities and more. While the UV Man workshops are fun, they are also focused on stressing the very important need for children and adults to take the necessary precautions before heading into an environment where there is a lot of heat and especially when there is the potential for prolonged UV ray exposure.

| The UV Man and crew utilize fun yet informative hand-outs that detail the facts about sun exposure and the skin damage and health problems that can occur as a result if precautions are not taken. We encourage participants to learn about all the available resources that can make a day in the sun also a day of safe fun. Many are impressed when they find out that our fabric shade structures are fabricated to block out up to 96% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. We give them samples of these mesh fabrics to feel which, since they are porous, allow for cool air circulation and keep temperatures underneath much cooler than other shade materials such as canvas, wood or steel. The UV Man always has plenty of lip balm and sun screen on hand as well to give away to all. He is not only our logo, he is the face and the symbol of our steadfast commitment to educate, inform and protect our children and the people in communities across the nation.
